The Maarandhoo Island Council has condemned the sudden dismissal of 13 employees from the local Fenaka Corporation branch without prior notice, stating that the move has left 13 families in a state of vulnerability.

In a press statement signed by Council President Hassan Waheed, Vice President Affifa Khalid, and Council Member Abdul Hameed Mohamed, the council expressed its strongest condemnation regarding the sudden dismissal of 13 employees from the Fenaka Corporation’s Maarandhoo branch. The statement noted that the staff were terminated without prior notice on the night of August 27, 2024, leaving 13 families in a state of sudden financial instability and distress.

The statement noted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has disregarded his presidential pledge to ensure job security. It further condemned the targeted dismissal of individuals with opposing political views under the guise of "rightsizing" the company as a cowardly and unacceptable act aimed at weakening political dissent.

The statement noted that terminating ordinary employees and leaving numerous families in distress under the guise of "rightsizing" companies, while simultaneously creating high-paying political positions, is an uncivilized practice aimed at providing undue advantages to a specific group. The council further stated that it views these actions as oppressive measures intended to politically weaken the public and force them into a state of subservience.

Consequently, the council has called upon all relevant authorities to ensure justice for the employees who were dismissed from their positions.
