Allegations of negligence have surfaced against the Thoddoo Police Station in Alif Alif Atoll regarding its handling of a child sexual abuse case.
The child's mother told RaajjeMV that the case involving the sexual abuse of a seven-year-old in Thoddoo was reported to the local police station on July 1, 2026, and that a formal statement was provided on the same day.
However, the child's mother stated that when she visited the police station on July 4 due to a lack of updates on the case, officers responded by asking if she still wished to pursue the matter. The parent expressed deep concern and questioned the police's conduct, alleging that officers claimed they had not registered the case because a previous sexual abuse complaint against the same suspect had been withdrawn by the complainant, leading to uncertainty on their part.
The child's mother stated that the case was only registered three days after it was initially reported. She further noted that when she contacted the Ministry of Gender regarding the matter, they claimed to have no prior knowledge of the incident.
Furthermore, a letter has been submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) requesting an investigation into the matter and seeking legal action against those found negligent.
