He accused the government of attempting to obstruct the debate on a public petition submitted against proposed changes to the Decentralization Act, further asserting that amending rules to prevent multiple petitions on the same issue is a deliberate move to silence the voice of the people.

The People’s Majlis is being conducted in violation of the spirit of the Constitution, and the current administration of the parliament mirrors the tactics of Hitler, stated Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency.
During Sunday's parliamentary sitting, MP Meekail spoke during the debate on a petition calling for the withdrawal of proposed amendments to the Decentralization Act. He asserted that the Standing Orders of the People’s Majlis carry the weight of law, warning that the law loses its integrity if it is amended daily. The lawmaker further criticized the government, stating that whenever parliamentary proceedings do not align with the interests of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), laws and regulations are being altered to suit their agenda.
Meekail stated that the e-petition system was established to allow citizens to bring their concerns to the floor for debate without the need to approach individual Members of Parliament. However, he noted that the current actions of the Parliament suggest the government is actively working to obstruct a debate initiated by the public.
Honorable Speaker, if the PNC encounters anything in Parliament tomorrow that does not align with their agenda, they simply alter the procedures, amend the laws, and change the regulations. By the following day, they conclude the matter and claim it was done in accordance with the rules. This reminds me of Nazi Germany; Honorable Speaker, we are witnessing Hitler’s tactics being mirrored in this Parliament. Whenever they wish to achieve a specific outcome, they simply change the regulations to suit their needs.Meekail Ahmed Naseem
Meekail noted that the law was amended to allow two petitions on the same issue specifically in response to the petition calling for the withdrawal of proposed amendments to the Decentralization Act. He alleged that this change was made to enable the PNC to submit its own petition through government-funded social media activists.
Furthermore, Meekail questioned why the PNC, despite holding a supermajority with approximately 70 members, appears unable to tolerate a petition submitted by the public. He added that the people would continue to hold the party accountable for such actions through their votes in upcoming elections.
The People's Majlis passed an amendment to its Standing Orders on August 18, allowing for the submission of multiple petitions regarding the same issue.
