Meekail: members receive MVR 12,000 monthly just for praising Muizzu and PNC

MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem has called for an end to efforts aimed at undermining parliamentary powers, alleging that coalition members are being paid MVR 12,000 per month to post pro-government content on social media. Meekail further asserted that sudden amendments to parliamentary regulations are being fast-tracked specifically to obstruct a petition concerning proposed changes to the Decentralization Act.

Member of Parliament for South Galolhu, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has alleged that members of the government coalition are receiving monthly payments in exchange for praising the People's National Congress (PNC) and the administration.

Speaking at Tuesday's parliamentary sitting, Meekail stated that members of the government coalition are being paid 12,000 Rufiyaa per month to post tweets praising the PNC and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Meekail stated that these were not his own words, but rather messages sent by the government spokesperson within various groups.

"You will all be paid 12,000 Rufiyaa every month to praise the PNC and tweet in support of President Muizzu. You will all be paid, alright? These are not my words; these are messages sent by this government's spokesperson in groups. Now, it is up to you to decide whether this is AI-generated or something else."

Meekail stated that the MDP has profound concerns regarding the Parliament's attempts to undermine the powers granted by its own standing orders. He further noted that it is evident to everyone that these sudden proposed amendments to the regulations are a direct attempt to obstruct a petition submitted to Parliament concerning the proposed amendments to the Decentralization Act.

Meekail has called on PNC members to refrain from encroaching upon the powers vested in the Parliament.
