The Hinnavaru Island Council has decided to impose a fee of MVR 2,000 on residents seeking to transfer their administrative registration away from the island.
The Hinnavaru Council announced on social media Wednesday that it has decided to introduce an administrative fee of MVR 2,000 for residents seeking to transfer their registry to other islands. This new policy is set to take effect on September 1, 2026.
The Hinnavaru Council stated that this decision was made due to the negative impact on the island's population growth and is intended to encourage an increase in the local population.
Under the Maldives' residency laws, every citizen is granted the legal right and freedom to relocate from one island to another.
