A Maldivian student and an instructor sustained serious injuries after a FlyBy Aviation Academy aircraft crashed from an altitude of 300 feet during a training flight in Spain. The Maldivian pilot suffered a broken leg in the accident, which follows a fatal crash involving the same academy in September 2024 that resulted in a student's death. Previous investigations into the academy have already highlighted significant deficiencies within its safety management systems.

A Maldivian pilot and a flight instructor have sustained serious injuries after a training aircraft from the Spain-based "FlyBy" aviation academy crashed.

A Maldivian student enrolled at FlyBy Aviation Academy reported that a Maldivian pilot sustained a fractured ankle and other injuries during an incident involving one of the academy's aircraft on Sunday. The student further noted that the flight instructor on board also sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident.

According to Spanish media reports, the Maldivian student involved in the accident sustained a head injury and significant damage to his legs. Furthermore, the Spanish newspaper 'La Rioja' reported that the 26-year-old flight instructor on board also suffered serious injuries. The publication noted that the instructor sustained severe trauma to both the head and the spine.

The aircraft crashed into an agricultural area known as 'Ulagosa' in Viana while flying at an altitude of approximately 300 feet. The downed plane is a Tecnam P2006T twin-engine aircraft operated by 'FlyBy.' Reports indicate that the aircraft was conducting 'touch-and-go' training maneuvers at Egonsilo Airport at the time of the incident.

Sunday's incident follows a previous crash involving a FlyBy Aviation Academy aircraft on September 18, 2024, which also resulted in a serious accident.

A 20-year-old German student pilot was killed in the incident. Additionally, a 32-year-old Bangladeshi flight instructor who was accompanying the student on the flight sustained serious injuries.

The tragic accident involved a single-engine Tecnam aircraft that had just taken off from Bagas Airport.

The aircraft crashed into an open field approximately 600 meters north of Abia de las Torres in Palencia.

The final investigation report into the incident concluded that the crash occurred after the pilot lost control of the aircraft while attempting a recovery maneuver during low-altitude flight. The investigation further identified several contributing factors, including violations of flight regulations, negligence by the flight school in supervising training sessions, and systemic deficiencies within the institution's safety management system.
