Former Member of Parliament for Kendhoo constituency, Ali Hussain, has stated that the public is currently witnessing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu absolving himself of his official responsibilities.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program on Monday night, Ali Hussain stated that if the cabinet fails to function effectively, it is a clear indication that the President has failed. He further noted that President Muizzu had failed to envision the challenges inherent in governing a nation.
Ali Hussain further noted that every incoming administration is granted a transitional period, during which the President must be able to gauge the extent to which projects can be effectively implemented.
Every president-elect is granted an interim period, the primary purpose of which is to assess the state of the nation upon taking office. This transitional phase serves as a crucial stage for evaluating the country's financial standing, determining available reserves and liquid assets, and identifying upcoming expenditure requirements. Ali Hussain stated that cabinet meetings should not be initiated only after two years in power, at a point when public discontent is already being voiced. He further noted that the current situation reflects a complete lack of foresight by President Muizzu, adding that the President had failed to even envision the challenges the nation might face.
Furthermore, Ali Hussain alleged that many current cabinet ministers were essentially "bought" with financial inducements. He further claimed that several ministers have refused to step down, despite being asked to resign from their positions.
Ali Hussain stated that anyone aspiring to be the President must possess wisdom and foresight. He further emphasized the importance of the President appointing individuals to the Cabinet who are genuinely believed to be capable of serving the nation.
Prior to assuming office, President Muizzu pledged to bring development and progress to the nation. However, two and a half years into his term, the government is facing public backlash as development projects remain stalled.
