A court has ordered the closure of a section of M. Land of Garden in Malé City, following allegations that the premises were being used as a drug den to provide narcotics services.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the premises have been ordered closed for a period of three months, effective from July 13, 2026, to October 11, 2026, under an order issued pursuant to the Drugs Act.
This marks the sixth location shuttered by the Maldives Police Service as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug dens operating within Malé City. Since May of this year, the courts have issued orders to close five other premises across the capital for a period of three months.
Those locations are:
H. Gunzaru: 6 May 2026 to 3 August 2026
M. Tharivilaage: 22 May 2026 to 22 August 2026
Part of M. Ameera Manzil: 1 June 2026 to 1 September 2026
MA. Seven and House: 11 June 2026 to 9 September 2026
H. Kandufinige (1st Floor, 1 Bedroom): From 25 June 2026 to 24 September 2026
Unauthorized entry or exit from premises cordoned off under a court order is a legal offense. Consequently, the police have issued a warning that legal action will be taken against individuals who trespass into such locations or cause any form of property damage.
Police further stated that they will continue their ongoing efforts under the powers vested in them by the Drugs Act. They emphasized that operations to identify and shut down additional premises used for drug trafficking and consumption will persist in accordance with the law.
