A dead whale has washed up on the reef on the western side of HA. Hoarafushi.
The whale, measuring approximately 30 feet in length, was discovered on Monday morning.

According to the Hoarafushi Island Council, efforts to dispose of the carcass began immediately upon its discovery, in coordination with relevant authorities. The whale has since been brought ashore and buried through a joint operation involving the Hoarafushi Council, the Maldives Police Service, the MNDF Northern Area Command, and the MTCC Hoarafushi site team.
Photos released by the council show two dinghies being used to tow the whale carcass toward the shore. Following this, an excavator was used to dig a large pit on the island's beach, where the whale was safely buried.
The council highlighted the cooperation provided by various local institutions throughout this initiative.
