All development pledges for Hoarafushi have "vanished into thin air," while an extraordinary land reclamation project has been launched just in time for the elections!
Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Waheed has strongly criticized the government for failing to fulfill President Muizzu’s developmental pledges for the island. Waheed noted that while the land reclamation project was launched ahead of the elections, all work has since come to a standstill. He further highlighted that despite presidential promises to establish a new ice plant, a modern bashi court, a water sports center, and a physiotherapy center, no progress has been made on any of these initiatives.

The President of Hoarafushi Island Council, Mohamed Waheed, has stated that all development pledges made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the island have "vanished into thin air." He further noted that the land reclamation project was launched in an unusual manner specifically to coincide with the three elections held on the 4th of this month.
Speaking on RaajjeTV's Fashaairu program, Waheed directed sharp criticism toward the current administration.
Waheed stated that, similar to the unusual occurrences observed across the Maldives during the three elections held on the 4th of this month, numerous such activities were also carried out on that island.
He noted that the land reclamation project was conducted in a highly unusual manner and stated that work on the project has now come to a halt.
Shall I tell you about the most extraordinary occurrence during this election? It concerns the Hoarafushi land reclamation project. Even back then, I cautioned against simply moving an excavator to the western side and leaving it idle. I urged them not to mislead the public by claiming reclamation had begun, similar to the deception surrounding the bunkering services. To this day, we see sandbags piled up in the area and the project board still standing. At the time, we were led to believe that work was imminent. However, the reality today is that those sandbags remain exactly where they were placed. Nevertheless, during our remaining time on this council, we will continue to apply professional pressure on the government to ensure these development projects commence as soon as possible.Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Waheed
Furthermore, Waheed stated that President Muizzu made numerous pledges for island development in the lead-up to the 20th People’s Majlis elections.
He noted that the plans included the establishment of a new ice plant, a modern bashi court, a water sports center, and a physiotherapy facility. However, Waheed stated that along with the previous administration's projects, all these promises have now vanished into thin air.
