Muizzu: Arabiyya School to commence classes in new building for the upcoming academic year
President Muizzu has accused the opposition MDP of attempting to dismantle Arabic Islamic education and neglecting the students and parents of Arabiyya School. The President stated that under his administration’s constructive policies, a permanent plot of land has been secured for the school, with construction of the new building now progressing rapidly. The project was awarded to RCC for over 152 million MVR, with a completion deadline of 540 days.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that teaching will commence at the new Al-Madhrasathul Arabiyyathul Islamiyya building with the start of the upcoming new academic year.
Speaking at a PNC rally held in Dh. Meedhoo on Sunday night, President Muizzu heavily criticized the opposition MDP, noting that there are only two distinct political ideologies currently present in the Maldives.
In this regard, he accused the MDP of pursuing destructive policies aimed at dismantling Arabic and Islamic education. Referring to Arabiyya School, President Muizzu stated that previous MDP administrations had effectively turned the school’s students and parents into refugees.
However, President Muizzu stated that under the PNC’s constructive policies, teaching will commence at the new Al-Madhrasathul Arabiyyathul Islamiyya building in time for the next academic year.
Was it not the actions of that destructive ideology to dismantle Arab-Islamic education? From the first MDP administration through to the second, there was a systematic effort to eliminate Arab-Islamic education. They demolished Arabiyya School and left its community stranded on the streets, turning the students and parents into refugees. In contrast, this constructive ideology has now allocated a large, permanent plot of land for Arabiyya School and is currently constructing a new building. God willing, the school will open and classes will commence in the upcoming academic year. This is the fundamental difference between a constructive ideology and a destructive one.President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
Despite President Muizzu’s remarks, the contract for the construction of the new Al-Madhrasathul Arabiyyal Islamiyya building was initially awarded to Amin Construction on September 29, 2022, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. At that time, the project was valued at MVR 168.5 million, with a completion deadline of 420 days. Under the current administration, the project site was relocated to the former waste disposal area. On February 24, 2024, Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu officially inaugurated the physical works for the new Arabiyya School building at the new location.
However, the agreement was terminated in September after Amin Construction declined to lower its bid price. Subsequently, on November 17, 2024, the project to redevelop Al-Madhrasathul Arabiyyathul Islamiyya into a modern 10-story building was awarded to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC), and work has since commenced.
The project was awarded to RCC for a total value of MVR 152,945,200.65, with a completion deadline of 540 days.
