The Nisab for *Zakat al-Mal* is the minimum threshold of wealth an individual must possess for the payment of Zakat to become obligatory. As one of the pillars of Islam, Zakat must be paid if an individual’s holdings meet or exceed this threshold and have remained in their possession for one full Hijri year. In accordance with Sharia principles, the obligatory payment is calculated as one-fortieth, or 2.5 percent, of the total wealth.
