The Maldives Zakat House has announced that applications for its higher education scholarship program will remain open until July 16.
The Maldives Zakat House has announced that its higher education scholarship program is now open to proposals for fields of study beyond the initially designated Islamic categories.
Applications for higher education scholarships and special scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students wishing to study both locally and abroad will open on May 17, 2026.
Under this scholarship program, opportunities for Master’s (Level 9) and PhD (Level 10) studies are available in several key fields. These include Islamic Shari’ah, Quranic Sciences, Islamic Education, Islamic Research and Publication, Islamic Journalism, Aqidah (Creed), Fiqh (Jurisprudence), Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence), and Islamic Leadership and Management.
However, applicants are not strictly limited to the pre-defined list of priority fields. Candidates may apply for scholarships in other disciplines, provided they can demonstrate through their proposals how their chosen field of study will contribute to the progress and development of Maldivian Islamic society.
According to the Maldives Zakat House, a total of 30 scholarship opportunities are being offered under this program. Of these, 10 slots are designated for studies within the Maldives, while the remaining 20 are allocated for overseas education.
Furthermore, several specialized scholarship opportunities have been introduced. These include five scholarships providing stipends for Maldivian students currently studying in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as five scholarships dedicated to training female doctors in fields related to women's health.
According to the Maldives Zakat House, applications and proposals must be submitted via email. The deadline for submission is 14:00 on July 16, 2026.
