President's Office estimates over MVR 15 million in expenditures for projects planned this year
The President's Office estimates that planned expenditures for this year will exceed 15 million rufiyaa, with significant funds allocated for office maintenance, air conditioning systems, and new furniture. This surge in spending has sparked public concern, coming at a time when the government is implementing austerity measures that have led to layoffs at state-owned enterprises and the suspension of various projects. Consequently, the government is facing mounting criticism over these substantial outlays for office renovations and Independence Day celebrations amidst a broader push for fiscal restraint.

According to data released by the President's Office, the total expenditure is estimated to reach MVR 15,395,382 (fifteen million, three hundred and ninety-five thousand, three hundred and eighty-two).
A breakdown of these expenses reveals that approximately one million Rufiyaa has been allocated for the maintenance of the President's Office. This comes at a time when state-owned enterprises are downsizing and projects are being halted to cut costs, leading to widespread public calls for maximum fiscal restraint. With numerous employees being laid off and various development projects suspended as part of these austerity measures, many view the substantial increase in spending by the President's Office as a matter of serious concern.
