The swearing-in ceremonies for councilors elected to the fifth term of local councils, along with the signing of the declarations of office by members of the Women's Development Committees, have been held across the Maldives.
The swearing-in ceremonies took place simultaneously across all inhabited islands of the Maldives on Sunday, May 17. This marks the inauguration of the fifth term of local councillors elected under the Decentralization Act.
The Local Government Authority (LGA) has determined this date in accordance with the Decentralization Act, taking into account the expiration of the five-year term since the current councilors were sworn into office.
In ceremonies held across the islands and cities of the Maldives, newly elected local council members were officially sworn into office, while members of the Women's Development Committees signed their declarations of commitment.
The Local Government Authority (LGA) has announced that once all newly elected members have been sworn in and have signed their oaths of office, the councils will convene for their first official meetings to proceed with the election of vice presidents.
Furthermore, members of the Women's Development Committees (WDC) will proceed with the election of their respective vice presidents after signing their oaths of office. According to the Local Government Authority (LGA), the position of WDC President is a full-time role.
