Police: Report of five deaths was an error; only one body has been recovered

Police have clarified that an earlier report stating all five individuals missing from a diving trip in Vaavu Atoll had died was issued in error, confirming that only one body has been recovered so far.
Police stated that the incorrect information was provided due to an error in the initial reports received at the time. The police have issued an apology to the public and the media for the misinformation.
Authorities are currently searching for five Italian nationals who went missing while diving from a safari vessel in Vaavu Atoll on Thursday. According to reports, the group consists of four members of the same family and a diving instructor.
According to the police, the report of the missing individuals was received at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. Authorities immediately launched a search and rescue operation upon receiving the report. Police confirmed that one person has been found deceased, while efforts to locate the remaining individuals are ongoing without interruption.
Regarding the incident, the police further stated that they are investigating all necessary aspects of the case. The police also noted that additional information will be shared with the public as it becomes available.
