Two foreigners arrested in possession of over a kilogram of narcotics, along with 130 bottles and 14 cans of alcohol
A Bangladeshi national suspected of alcohol possession and trafficking has been handed over to Immigration for deportation after a search of his residences uncovered 130 bottles and 14 jerrycans of liquor; meanwhile, a Sri Lankan national was apprehended at Velana International Airport for attempting to smuggle over a kilogram of narcotics into the country and has been remanded in custody for seven days as police continue to investigate both cases.

Two expatriates have been arrested in Male' in possession of 130 bottles and 14 jerrycans of alcohol.
Police stated that two individuals have been arrested as part of their ongoing special operations to curb drug trafficking into the Maldives and to combat the illicit trade of narcotics and alcohol.
The two individuals arrested in connection with these cases have been identified as MD Harun Mia, 47, a Bangladeshi national, and Husman Rasik Arsil Aleem, 26, a Sri Lankan national. Both suspects were taken into custody on April 25.
One of the two individuals, MD Harun Mia, was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession, consumption, and trafficking of alcohol. During a joint operation conducted by Drug Enforcement and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence, authorities searched two apartments in Male' linked to him, discovering four 5-liter bottles, 126 bottles of 500ml, and 14 cans containing substances suspected to be alcohol.
Following the completion of the necessary legal procedures, MD Harun Mia has been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation.
Husman Rasik Arsil Aleem has been arrested in connection with the smuggling of over one kilogram of narcotics into the Maldives. He was taken into custody at Velana International Airport after being intercepted and handed over to the police by Maldives Customs Service.
Following a court appearance to determine his detention status, Husman Rasik Arsil Aleem has been remanded in custody for seven days. According to the court order, he tested positive for illicit substances during a mandatory urine screening.
Police are currently investigating both cases.
