Changes made to government administrative structure
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has restructured the government by dissolving several departments and establishing the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy. The President's Office officially announced these administrative changes, which also include renaming certain ministries and reassigning the oversight of various state agencies.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has introduced changes to the government's administrative structure.
In this regard, the President has officially announced several structural changes through directive number 7/2026. These measures include the dissolution of certain ministries, the establishment of an entirely new ministry, the renaming of several government departments, and the reallocation of oversight for various state agencies.
In this regard, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has been established as an entirely new government entity.
The dissolved ministries include the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
Ministries renamed
- The name of the "Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology" has been changed to the "Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology."
- The name of the "Ministry of Finance and Planning" has been changed to the "Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises."
- The name of the "Ministry of Education" has been changed to the "Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development."
- The Ministry of Health has been renamed the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare.
- The "Ministry of Economic Development and Trade" has been renamed the "Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade."
- The name of the "Ministry of Islamic Affairs" has been changed to the "Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments."
- The name of the "Ministry of Tourism and Environment" has been changed to the "Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation."
- The name of the "Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation" has been changed to the "Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness."
- The name of the "Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage" has been changed to the "Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage."
- The name of the "Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure" has been changed to the "Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development."
- The name of the "Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources" has been changed to the "Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources."
Among these changes are the institutions whose oversight has been transferred, along with the specific structural adjustments implemented.
- The National Careers Service, which previously operated under the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, has been transferred to the mandate of the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology.
- The Maldives Qualifications Authority, the Maldives National Skills Development Authority, and the Maldives Polytechnic—previously operating under the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development—have been transferred to the mandate of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development.
- The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), Family and Children’s Service Centres, Aman Hiya shelters, the Villingili Social Service Centre, Elderly Centres, and the Child and Family Protection Service—along with the Fiyavathi and Aman Veshi facilities operating under it—have been transferred from the Ministry of Social and Family Development to the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare.
- The Maldives Transportation Safety Board, which previously operated under the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, has been transferred to the mandate of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
- The National Bureau of Classification, the National Library, the National Archives, and the National Centre for the Arts—along with the National Art Gallery operating under it—have been transferred from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage.
- The Environmental Regulatory Authority, the Utility Regulatory Authority, the Maldives Meteorological Service, and the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office—previously operating under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment—have been transferred under the mandate of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.
