A specialized book on civil obligations and civil liability (Maldivian Tort Law) has been released.
The Maldivian Tort Law is a comprehensive publication focusing on civil obligations and civil wrongs, specifically addressing liability arising from negligence. Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the book, legal expert Husnu Al Suood stated that the text covers the law of torts—a fundamental branch of legal practice concerning claims for damages—which is a type of litigation frequently presided over by Maldivian courts. He further noted that the book is highly relevant to the general public, as it provides detailed information on various forms of negligence and the legal frameworks for seeking compensation for damages.
Suood stated that this is an expanding field in the Maldives, yet many students lack access to relevant literature. He noted that tort law in the Maldives is frequently shaped by the precedents set by the country's courts. He further explained that the book was developed in response to concerns from students and legal practitioners regarding the lack of a single comprehensive resource detailing court rulings and legal principles. He added that there is a clear demand for such a resource, particularly for students preparing for university examinations.
This is the culmination of nearly a decade of work. Having been in development since approximately 2015 or 2016, the writing process has finally reached completion. The book is now available through the Maldives Law Institute.Attorney-at-Law Husnu Al Suood
Suood stated that the Maldivian Tort Law will be made available online in the future. The book is currently being sold for MVR 450. It is available for purchase at the Maldives Law Institute.
