Two key legal and publications released by Suood
Suood launched two books on fundamental rights and zakat calculation at a special ceremony on Sunday
The first book examines the Maldives constitutional system with detailed analysis of rights and relevant court rulings
The second book provides guidance on calculating zakat on wealth, with plans for nationwide workshops and mosque distribution

Two significant works authored by former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood, “Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of Citizens: Volume 1” and “Calculating Zakat on Wealth”, were officially launched at a special ceremony held on Sunday evening.

The event was officiated by Ahmed Muizzu, President of the Maldives Law Institute and former Prosecutor General.

The first volume of “Fundamental Rights and Freedoms of Citizens” marks the beginning of a comprehensive series examining the constitutional system of the Maldives. In this publication, Suood outlines the purpose and justification behind each constitutional right, providing detailed analysis alongside summaries of relevant rulings issued by Maldivian courts. This work serves as a critical legal reference for practitioners, scholars, and citizens seeking to understand the foundational rights enshrined in the nation's supreme law.

The second book, “Calculating Zakat on Wealth”, addresses a frequently overlooked aspect of Islamic financial obligation. Aimed at increasing public awareness and compliance, the book offers clear guidance on how zakat on wealth should be calculated and paid. Suood highlighted that despite the importance of zakat as one of the five pillars of Islam, many remain uncertain about its practical application.

To support the dissemination of this knowledge, plans are underway to conduct information sessions and workshops across the country.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has also agreed to facilitate the distribution of the Zakat guide by placing copies in mosques, further broadening its accessibility.

Both books are now available for purchase through the Maldives Law Institute, offering valuable resources for both legal professionals and the wider public.
