Kooddoo runs out of fuel, leaving fishermen unable to set sail
Numerous fishing vessels in Huvadhu Atoll have been grounded during a peak fishing season due to a fuel shortage at Kooddoo. While MIFCO attributed the disruption to logistical challenges faced by STO in loading diesel and assured that supplies would resume by Monday, fishermen allege the shortage stems from MIFCO’s failure to settle outstanding payments to STO.

Fishermen have reported that fuel supplies have been unavailable at GA. Kooddoo since Saturday.
Fishermen have reported that despite the current peak fishing season, they have been unable to obtain fuel from Kooddoo since Saturday. They stated that the fuel shortage has grounded the entire fishing fleet in Huvadhu Atoll, leaving all vessels docked in the harbor and unable to go out to sea.
Fishermen have reported that MIFCO has failed to settle outstanding payments with STO, leading to a suspension of fuel supplies. The fishermen noted that despite this, fuel costs are still being consistently deducted from their earnings.
A senior official from Kooddoo spoke to RaajjeMV regarding the matter, confirming that the diesel supplied by STO has run out. The official explained that the shortage was caused by a loading issue, adding that the matter is expected to be resolved by Monday, at which point diesel will once again be available to fishermen.
