Allegations have surfaced regarding the irregular sale of over 600 parking spaces in Hulhumale' ahead of the elections scheduled for April 4.
Reports indicate that over 600 parking spaces in Hulhumale' were sold in violation of established regulations, following the same unauthorized procedure used to sell street parking slots in Male' during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor. Sources further reveal that these parking spaces are being sold for amounts ranging between MVR 35,000 and MVR 50,000 per slot.
Many have also alleged that the sale of parking slots in eight areas of Hulhumale' is a move to generate funds for the upcoming election.
Official comment from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) regarding this matter was not immediately available.
Public concerns are mounting over the government's alleged misuse of state resources to influence the outcome of the Local Council Elections, Women's Development Committee elections, and the upcoming referendum scheduled for the 4th of this month. Critics point to a surge in new recruitment, staff promotions, and salary increments as evidence of these tactics. Reports indicate that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) alone has recently hired over 400 new employees. Furthermore, it is understood that more than 1,000 staff members within the corporation have been granted professional promotions during this period.
