The Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Athif, has stated that invitations issued for the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the 2,000 housing units planned for the city were abruptly rescinded.
In a social media post tonight, Mayor Athif stated that he received an invitation from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) earlier this afternoon to attend the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for this evening. The Mayor further noted that he accepted the invitation immediately and confirmed his attendance at the event.
However, Mayor Athif revealed that HDC contacted him again later this afternoon to inform him that the invitation had been rescinded. The Mayor stated that he decided to share this information publicly to clarify the situation, as his absence from the ceremony might otherwise raise questions among the public.
Furthermore, the Mayor expressed significant concerns regarding this major housing project in Kulhudhuffushi. He noted with regret that although the foundation stone for the 2,000 housing units is being laid tonight, the initial concepts for these units have yet to be developed or shared with the City Council.
The exclusion of the City Council from such vital development projects in Kulhudhuffushi has become a growing concern among the local community.
