Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif has offered a unique perspective on the enduring connection between the city and the scales of justice—the symbol of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Speaking at the "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally held in the city, Athif used poetic verses to illustrate the city's progress and its deep-rooted connection with the MDP. He highlighted the significant contributions made by the party toward the city's development, asserting that its future growth remains inextricably linked to the MDP. Athif further noted that the previous MDP administration had been a highly productive and favorable period for the city's advancement.
"We rejoiced in the beautiful symbol of the scales; the overwhelming votes cast for this symbol painted a vision in our hearts for a beautiful dawn of local governance. Indeed, it was five years ago that we set out with these words and this melody. Today, the people of Kulhudhuffushi will bear witness that what we said has come true," Athif said.
He highlighted that the MDP is contesting the upcoming election with a robust set of policies, sharing detailed insights into their plans. These include specific measures to expand local tourism and boost the island's productivity. Athif also pledged to work towards resolving housing issues to create a favorable environment for businesses and ensure a prosperous life for residents.
He stated that voting for the MDP in the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections is a responsibility for anyone who wishes to see progress for the city.
Furthermore, Athif stated that while local councils are the most vital component of the decentralization system, the MDP is the only party that truly empowers them. Consequently, Athif asserted that members of the party should be the ones leading and making decisions within that system.
