After Viral Backlash, HDC Orders Shutdown of Vinares Flats Laundry Factory Within Seven Days
Following social media reports of an illegal laundry factory operating within a Vinares flat, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has ordered the immediate cessation of operations and provided a seven-day deadline to remove all machinery. The corporation emphasized that conducting such industrial activities in residential areas is strictly prohibited.

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has ordered the immediate cessation of a laundry factory operation within a Vinares flat in Hulhumale', following significant public outcry and complaints.
HDC stated that the Vinares flats are designated as residential properties and, as such, conducting this type of business on the premises is prohibited.
HDC spokesperson Mohamed Siraj told RaajjeMV that the issue came to their attention following a video circulated on social media, and the flat owner has since been instructed to cease operations at the premises. He further stated that the owner has been given a seven-day period to remove the washing machines from the flat, noting that further action will be taken if the owner fails to comply and continues to operate the business.
Conducting such industrial activities in residential areas is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, laundry businesses in Hulhumale' are only permitted to operate with special authorization from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Videos circulating on social media show a large number of washing machines and dryers, alongside several large gas cylinders installed at the premises.
The laundry factory is operated at Vinares 8A-206 in Hulhumale' 2.
Regarding the issue, some residents of the Vinares flats stated that the factory has been operational for some time. They noted that the facility utilizes public elevators to transport both soiled and laundered items, causing significant inconvenience. Residents confirmed that they have previously lodged formal complaints regarding these difficulties.
However, after failing to find a resolution, the video was shared on social media.
Residents of the Vinares flats have raised concerns over numerous unresolved issues within the complex, alleging that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has failed to carry out necessary maintenance and is guilty of significant negligence.
