MDP Pickup Rally: "Because President Muizzu came to power through deception, he believes he can continue to mislead the public on every issue"
The main opposition MDP has accused President Dr. Muizzu’s administration of deceiving the public and questioned the independence of the Attorney General during a recent "pickup" rally. Speakers at the event alleged that the President is attempting to establish a family-based dynasty and urged citizens to vote "no" in the upcoming referendum. The party further claimed that the government is operating like a monarchy, asserting that the Maldivian people will not allow such a system to take root.

Shathir Abdul Rahman, the MDP National Congress President for the Kudahuvadhoo constituency, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu believes he can deceive the public on any matter because he assumed office by misleading many, including his own party.
Speaking at the MDP’s pickup rally on Sunday, Shathir stated that President Muizzu secured the presidency by deceiving a significant number of people. Consequently, Shathir remarked that the President and his team now believe they can continue to mislead the public on all other matters.
Shathir further remarked that Attorney General Ahmed Usham currently resembles a bird with clipped wings, asserting that his only role has been to issue press statements aimed at misleading the public in accordance with President Muizzu’s directives.
President Muizzu and the Attorney General are well aware of the situation. The Attorney General’s powers have been significantly curtailed; he is now merely issuing press releases as directed by the President.Shathir Abdul Rahman, the President of the MDP National Congress' Kudahuvadhoo Constituency.
Speaking at the gathering, MDP National Congress member Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) alleged that President Muizzu is attempting to establish a monarchy in the Maldives. Saleem stated that while the President is distributing state resources among family members and close associates, his ultimate intention is to sustain this dynastic rule over the country for a long period. However, he emphasized that the public remains vigilant and will not allow such a move to succeed.
All speakers at Sunday's rally called on the public to vote "no" in the upcoming referendum.
