The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that the Eid al-Fitr prayer for the year 1447 will be held across four public squares and 25 mosques in the Male' City area. This includes 17 mosques in Male', one in Villingili, five in Hulhumale' Phase 1, and two in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
In addition, the Eid prayer congregation in Male' is scheduled to be held at the Maafannu Stadium. For Hulhumale' Phase 2, the congregation will be held at the vacant lot adjacent to Masjid Hassan Adam, encompassing the intersection of Nirolhu Magu, Heenaamaa Hingun, Feyrugas Magu, and Dhunburigas Magu.
Although large congregations for Eid prayers were not held in the Greater Male' Area over the past two years due to COVID-19, prayers were conducted in mosques while maintaining physical distancing measures. However, Eid al-Fitr in 2020 coincided with a nationwide lockdown imposed to curb the spread of the virus. Consequently, Eid prayers were not held in any mosques across the capital during that period.
The tradition of performing Eid prayers in large outdoor congregations began in the Maldives in 2012. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these mass gatherings were suspended in the Greater Male' Area during 2020 and 2021. While Eid prayers were held in mosques with social distancing measures in 2021, the Eid al-Fitr of 2020 coincided with a nationwide lockdown. Consequently, no Eid prayers were held in the mosques of Male' during that period.
