It has been revealed that out of the 15 mosques opened by the current administration for this Ramadan, 10 were constructed and inaugurated through the generous contributions of private donors.
A reliable source informed RaajjeMV that out of the 15 mosques opened this Ramadan, 10 were constructed and inaugurated through the generous donations of private benefactors, with no government contribution toward their development. The source further noted that only five of the mosques were funded by the state.
The mosques opened through state funding include the Dhidhdhoo Islamic Centre and the mosques in Kurendhoo, Manadhoo, Maradhoo, and Gan. Additionally, several mosques were constructed and opened through the generous contributions of private donors. These include mosques in Foakaidhoo, Olhuvelifushi, Gan (Harbor), Ihavandhoo, Hulhumale' Phase 2, the Barubaree Mosque, and mosques in ADh. Omadhoo, N. Manadhoo (Harbor), Kudafari, and Kendhikulhudhoo.
Furthermore, he stated that the five mosques recently inaugurated by the government were projects initiated, finalized, and contracted during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Regarding these projects, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that 15 mosques have been opened for Ramadan, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier announcement. These include both government-funded projects and those carried out in collaboration with private parties. Minister Shaheem further noted that the number of opened mosques is expected to reach 20 by the end of Ramadan, with several additional mosques scheduled to open during the holy month.
Furthermore, in this year's Presidential Address, President Muizzu characterized mosque construction projects initiated by the previous administration as initiatives of the current government.
President Muizzu stated that mosques are the most significant structures of the Islamic faith. He further noted that his administration places a special priority on the renovation of existing mosques and the construction of new facilities.
President Muizzu stated that over the past year, physical work has proceeded on a total of 90 projects, including 74 mosques, seven Islamic centers, three Quran centers, and six waqf buildings. The President further noted that among these projects, the Islamic Center in HA. Dhidhdhoo and mosques in 10 other islands have been completed and officially opened.
