Food production facility ordered to suspend operations over hygiene violations
MFDA has ordered a ban on the sale and consumption of all products under a specific brand after discovering an unregistered production facility operating in violation of safety standards. The authority stated that this measure was taken as a precautionary step due to poor hygiene conditions and the facility's failure to meet established food safety regulations.

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has ordered "Bilthma Tasty"—a facility producing and selling fried leaves, chopped meat, Rihaakuru, and other food items—to suspend its operations due to poor hygienic conditions.
The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) stated that following a complaint, an inspection was conducted at "Bilthma Tasty," an establishment producing and marketing packaged food items such as fried leaves, chopped fish, local delicacy kulhi kaajaa, and rihaakuru. The inspection revealed that the facility failed to meet food safety standards and maintained poor overall hygiene conditions.
Consequently, they have been instructed to cease all ongoing work at the site immediately.
Furthermore, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) stated that although registration is mandatory under the Food Safety Act, the establishment was found to be operating without the required registration.
As a precautionary measure, the authority has advised the public to refrain from consuming or selling any food products manufactured under that brand.
Authorities have previously inspected and taken action against several food packaging facilities due to poor hygiene standards. It has been noted that a significant number of such establishments are operated illegally by undocumented expatriates.
