Toxic substances have been detected in several batches of "Babybio" infant formula.

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) announced on Sunday that certain batches of Babybio brand infant formula, manufactured in France, have been found to contain a toxic substance known as cereulide. The authority stated that information published on Europe’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) indicates that French authorities have ordered the product to be recalled from the market, and have prohibited its sale and instructed its disposal.

Noting that cereulide is a toxin produced by the bacterium *Bacillus cereus*, the Maldives Food and Drug Administration (MFDA) stated that the consumption of contaminated products may lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

As a precautionary measure, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has prohibited the import, sale, and use of three batches of Bacee Bio Optima 1 and one batch of Baby Bio Caprea 1.
