Construction of N. Kendhikulhudhoo Police Station stalls: "Current status of the building's blueprints remains unknown"
The Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the lack of progress on a new police station project, noting that despite allocating a large plot of land, the contractor, MTCC, remains uninformed of the project's specific details and architectural designs.

The Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council has stated that no progress has been made on the construction of the island's new police station, noting that even the status of the project's architectural designs remains unknown.
In an interview with RaajjeTV, the Vice President of the Kendhikulhudhoo Council, Hassan Mohamed, stated that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which has been awarded the project to develop the local police station, lacks the necessary details regarding the project's scope. He further noted that MTCC has been approaching the council for clarifications regarding the facility's architectural drawings.
"We have no information on whether this will be a one-story or a two-story building. Although the land has been handed over, no progress has been made on the project," he said.
Hassan stated that the Kendhikulhudhoo Council remains fully committed to cooperating with the government's initiatives. He highlighted that the council has provided a large plot of land in the island free of charge for the establishment of a modern police station. Furthermore, he noted that the current police station on the island was also constructed by the council and subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities.
"The facility was constructed by the council and then handed over. Their concern stems from the fact that they are required to pay a certain amount in rent. It seems it is not an issue when millions are spent on buildings in Malé, yet when a small fee is required in the islands, it becomes a major problem," said Hassan, Vice President of the Kendhikulhudhoo Council.
He further stated that the council initially allocated a 5,000-square-foot plot for the construction of the new police station. However, following concerns that the space was insufficient, Hassan noted that the council has since designated an 18,000-square-foot area for the project.
The Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council has requested that the local police station be upgraded to accommodate a minimum of eight officers. Police services were first established on the island in 2022.
