Authorities seize hash oil worth MVR 29 million attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives by sea

The seizure took place during an operation conducted on May 12, and the confiscated narcotics have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.

Maldives Customs Service has reported the discovery of suspected narcotics during a search of a sea freight shipment on February 12, 2026.
Customs stated that the substances tested positive for hashish oil during the initial phase of testing.
Customs stated that the seized items weighed 36.43 kilograms, with an estimated street value of 29 million Rufiyaa. Customs further confirmed that the narcotics have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
These items were found sealed in rubber packets.
