Kendhikulhudhoo outdoor gym project stalls; council left in the dark
Shahid stated that since the current administration took office, no details regarding projects initiated on the island have been shared with the council. He further noted that the government has failed to respond to any correspondence sent by the council, leaving them in the dark as to whether the projects have been suspended or what their current status is.

The President of the N. Kendhikulhudhoo Island Council, Mohamed Shahid, has stated that the council has not been provided with any information regarding the outdoor gym being established on the island.
Shahid stated that the project was officially inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the island in July 2025. The execution of the project has been contracted to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
He stated that a formal letter has been sent to the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works seeking information regarding this project and other ongoing initiatives. Furthermore, he noted that the Ministry has been requested to clarify the project's scope, its total cost, and the scheduled completion date.
Highlighting the issue, Shahid stated that since the current administration took office, no details regarding any projects initiated on the island have been shared with the council. He further noted that the government has failed to respond to any correspondence sent by the council, leaving them in the dark as to whether the projects have been halted or what their current status is.
Furthermore, Shahid noted that while there are claims of councils failing to cooperate with the government, it remains unclear what specific actions the government expects from them. He highlighted that councils receive no response to their correspondence and argued that the existence of the Local Government Authority (LGA) and the Ministry of Cities has provided no benefit; instead, they have become a significant source of "harassment" and obstruction.
Although the current administration initiated numerous projects in Kendhikulhudhoo, work on these developments has now come to a standstill.
