The harbor upgrade and boat beaching area project initiated in Kendhikulhudhoo island of Noonu atoll, is well underway.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Thursday.

As such, taking to social media platform ‘X’ to provide the latest updates of the Kendhikulhudhoo harbor upgrade and boat beaching area project to the public, MTCC revealed that they are currently conducting the new harbor basin dredging operations.

The physical work of the project began during September 2023. The project site was mobilized on 7 September 2023.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to conduct dredging operations for a new harbor basin in an area spanning 28,393 cubic meters, as well as maintenance dredging operations in an area of 30,480 cubic meters.

Channel dredging operations will also be carried out in an area measuring 12,968 cubic meters, as well as dredging operations for the boat beaching area basin in an area measuring 12,038 cubic meters.

In addition to this MTCC will be conducting dredging operations for the boat beaching area channel, in an area spanning 14,220 cubic meters.

The construction of a quay wall measuring 249 meters and a breakwater measuring 368 meters, also comes under the scope of the project.

The project also entails the construction of a 130-meter revetment, a 246-meter groyne, a ramp measuring 11 meters by 11 meters, a jetty measuring 86 meters by 1.5 meters and a pavement measuring 1,990 square meters.

The project will also see the installation of harbor lights, navigational lights and mooring buoys.

The project was contracted to the company by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The Kendhikulhudhoo harbor upgrade and boat beaching area project is valued at MVR 73.16 million.
