President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a one million Maldivian Rufiyaa cash reward for both the Maldives National Senior Football Team and the National Futsal Team, celebrating their outstanding recent achievements on the international stage.
The announcement was made by Minister of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu during an interview with state media. The minister confirmed that the president has approved a one million MVR bonus to be shared among the players and officials of both the national football and national futsal teams.
The decision follows a series of landmark successes by Maldivian teams in international competition. The Maldives National Senior Football Team claimed victory in the South Asian Super Cup, which was held in Sri Lanka last year, marking a major achievement for the sport in the country.
Adding to the celebrations, the Maldives National Futsal Team was crowned champions of the inaugural SAFF Futsal Championship, held in Thailand earlier this month. The triumph marked the first time the Maldives has won an international title in futsal and saw the team etch their names in history as the tournament’s first-ever champions.
Minister Rafiu also noted that the president’s decision to award the financial incentive was initially made during a meeting with the national football team.
