Hussain Aboobakuru, President of the island council in Henbadhoo of Noonu atoll, has revealed that the development of the island’s health center, initiated during the former administration of the now-opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), as part of a national effort to strengthen island healthcare, has been halted since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.
Aboobakuru noted that all work on the health center stopped following the change in administration. He highlighted concerns over the building’s current condition, reporting that structural frameworks have begun to deteriorate and iron reinforcements are now severely rusted, rendering them unusable.
The council president stressed that residents of Henbadhoo are urgently requesting the government to complete the facility as soon as possible. According to the island’s population, no significant development projects have progressed effectively in Henbadhoo during the first year of Muizzu’s presidency.
Residents further reported that projects initiated by the previous MDP government have come to a standstill. During its term, the MDP administration completed several key development initiatives in Henbadhoo, including establishing a water supply system, constructing the harbor, implementing coastal protection measures and developing a new Fenaka office building and powerhouse.
While the MDP administration undertook numerous infrastructure projects across the atolls to provide essential services and improve living standards, residents have expressed disappointment over the current administration’s delays in continuing these vital initiatives.
