Adeel Ahmed's death

The body of a young man who died under mysterious circumstances at a resort has been buried following an autopsy that was carried out against the wishes of his family.

Adeel Ahmed, a 21-year-old employed at a resort, was reported dead on 23 August 2025. Due to the unclear nature of his death, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) sent his body to India for an autopsy. However, Adeel's family raised concerns after not receiving any information for several days and not being handed the body even a week after his passing.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Adeel’s mother, Naajidha Hassan, said the autopsy was conducted despite the family's explicit objections. She added that authorities had failed to provide any updates regarding her son’s death and that the body was only handed over to the family late Thursday night.

Naajidha expressed deep frustration and hopelessness about ever getting justice for her son. She said the incident occurred during a time when most of the resort’s staff and management were asleep. She asserted that she was also informed that all the CCTV cameras at the resort were damaged at the time of the incident.

Addressing rumors that Adeel may have died by suicide, Naajidha strongly rejected the idea. She shared that during their last phone call, Adeel spoke cheerfully about his life and even mentioned plans to go on a vacation abroad with friends. She emphasized that there were no signs of distress in that conversation.

“If Adeel had been going through something serious, he would have confided in a sibling or close friend,” she said, asserting that no such signs were ever noticed by anyone close to him.

Adeel’s body was buried after the Fajr on Friday. Naajidha said his forehead appeared severely swollen and asked the public to pray for her son’s peace in the hereafter.
