An elderly woman injured in a dangerous accident that occurred in Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll on Friday, has succumbed to her injuries.

RaajjeMV understands that the deceased is Mariyam Moosa, 64, from Maavah island in Laamu atoll.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the accident was reported at around 07:18pm on Friday, when a motorcycle traveling from Fonadhoo to Gan collided with two pedestrians crossing the road.

Police highlighted that in the fatal crash, two women who were crossing the road from the pedestrian crossing and two individuals on the motorcycle were injured and rushed to the hospital.

Four individuals were reportedly injured in the accident including the two women crossing the road, the man driving the motorcycle, and the woman sitting on the back of the motorcycle.

MPS revealed that the 64-year-old woman injured in the accident passed away while receiving treatment at Gan Regional Hospital. The police institution did not disclose further details of the injuries sustained by the deceased.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
