President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent visit to the UK Parliament’s House of Commons, including his meeting with Speaker Right Honorable Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP during his high-level trip to the United Kingdom, went unreported by the House of Commons media.
Neither the official website of the House of Commons in the "Commons News" section nor its official account on social media platform ‘X’ has published any information about the Maldivian leader’s visit.
While the President's Office website states that the Speaker of the House of Commons paid a courtesy call on the Maldivian leader, images show Muizzu visiting the House of Commons to meet with the Speaker.
According to the President's Office, the meeting took place at Speaker's House, the official residence of the Speaker of the House of Commons, located in the Palace of Westminster in London.
The President's Office stated that during Wednesday’s meeting, discussions were held on strengthening bilateral relations, highlighting the sustainable ties between the Maldives and the United Kingdom, especially in areas such as environmental protection, sustainable tourism, fisheries, and the promotion of democratic governance.

While the President's Office stated this, a post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on ‘X’ regarding the meeting said that discussions were held on strengthening parliamentary relations in conjunction with the Maldives-UK All-Party Parliamentary Group.
After the meeting, the president reportedly signed the Distinguished Visitors' Book and then toured the Palace of Westminster, according to the President's Office.
"This meeting ensures that the work done by both countries to further strengthen diplomatic relations and establish connections in important areas will be further reinforced," the President's Office said in its news release about the meeting, without providing further details.
The President's Office has not disclosed any decisions made during the meeting.
While the President's Office has described Muizzu's visit to the UK as a very important trip, no media outlet in that country has published news of his arrival in the country.
