The People's Majlis has greenlighted the appointment of Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, who held a senior position at the Islamic Ministry, to fill the vacant member position at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).
54 lawmakers who participated in the vote at Monday’s Majlis sitting voted in favor of appointing Zam’ath as a Broadcom member. No lawmaker voted against her appointment to Broadcom.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu submitted six names to parliament for consideration to appoint to Broadcom in May. Zam’ath was given the highest priority on the president's list as well.
Two announcements were made to appoint two members to Broadcom. Among those who applied for the first announcement, the committee gave the highest marks to Zeena Zahir, former Managing Director of PSM, but the Majlis approved TVM presenter Moosa Rizwan. The president has since appointed him to Broadcom.
Subsequently, on May 12, the president sent an additional list of six individuals to appoint to the commission after the term of commission member Aminath Ameena was due to end on June 15.
In addition to Zam’ath, other names proposed for Broadcom membership included Ibrahim Ashraf, Moosa Rilwan, Zeena Zahir, Ali Yoosuf, and Shimla Ahmed.
Zam’ath is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Islamic Ministry. She has previously worked as a journalist at Public Service Media for many years. She has also worked in some private media outlets. Zam’ath has completed a Master's degree in journalism.
