Young Maldivian athlete, Laiba “Elly” Ahmed Mahloof has won gold medals in all three events she participated in, at the Armenian Youth Open 2025 currently underway in Armenia.
As the tournament unfolds in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, young athletes aged 13 to 15 from over 92 countries are competing on the international stage.
Laiba, a seasoned international competitor with a track record of strong performances, took part in three events at the tournament: the Under-13 Singles, Under-13 Doubles, and Under-13 Mixed Doubles.
Laiba emerged victorious in the finals of the Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles events, securing a clean sweep of gold medals. Her triumph marks the first time a young player has claimed a medal at an international tournament.
In the final of the Singles event, Laiba competed against Georgia's top player, defeating her in straight sets. The scores were 21-15 and 21-11.
In the Mixed Doubles of the tournament, Laiba and Eric also won in straight sets. Similarly, in the Doubles event, Laiba and Amelia won in straight sets as well.
Laiba has consistently competed in both domestic tournaments in the Maldives and international events, delivering strong performances throughout. To date, she has amassed an impressive 23 medals in tournaments listed on the Badminton Europe calendar, including three gold, five silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Laiba secured third place in the Young Athlete of the Year category at last year's Maldives Sports Awards.
