Authorities are warning the public to exercise caution following reports of a scam in which fraudsters are impersonating the Maldives Post office, falsely claiming to request recipients’ addresses for the delivery of packages.

Maldives Post shared a post on social media, revealing the message being sent in the company's name.

The fraudulent message, sent under the guise of the Maldives Post Office, claims that an attempted delivery of a package was unsuccessful due to an incorrect address. It urges recipients to update their delivery information by clicking a link provided in the message, warning that the correction must be made within six hours.

The message further warns that a fee will be charged if the delivery address is not updated within the specified time frame. However, the Maldives Post Office has confirmed that the message is fraudulent and is urging all customers to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with it.

Maldives Post has stated that they will never send a message to any customer seeking a package's delivery address. The company has also requested not to click on such links to protect personal and financial information.

The scam has surfaced at a time when many consumers are already voicing concerns over delays in receiving items ordered from platforms such as Teemu, as the Eid holiday approaches.

Authorities emphasize the importance of remaining alert to such scams, stressing that public awareness and proactive security measures are key to prevention. In the event of falling victim to a scam, individuals are urged to take immediate action and report the incident to the relevant authorities, a step that can help prevent others from being targeted.

With reports of fraudulent money-making schemes on the rise, similar scam messages have previously been circulated under the names of various government-owned companies. As different types of scams continue to emerge across the Maldives, authorities are renewing their calls for public vigilance and caution.
