The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has decided to kickstart the "FAM League Cup" on Thursday.
The tournament is organized by FAM as a replacement for the football season that was originally scheduled to begin in April but had to be postponed.
A total of six teams are competing in the tournament. These include three teams from the First Division and three teams from the Second Division.
The three teams competing from the First Division are Maziya Sports and Recreation, Odi Sports Club, and TC Sports Club.
The three teams competing from the Second Division in the tournament include New Radiant Sports Club, Mahibadhoo Sports Club, and JJ Sports Club.
FAM had earlier scheduled to start the football season within April. Accordingly, many clubs had begun preparations for the season, including starting training and recruiting players.
However, the decision to postpone the start of the football season was made following the instructions of the international football governing body; FIFA. FIFA has also provided financial assistance to FAM for conducting the tournament.
