235 vehicles have been towed from the streets of the capital Malé City.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they have been working on removing vehicles that have been abandoned for long periods on the roads of Malé City. Under this operation, a total of 235 vehicles have been towed so far. This includes 201 motorcycles, 31 four-wheeled vehicles, and three bicycles.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, a police media official said this work was initiated as part of Ramadan preparations. The vehicles were removed after examining high-traffic areas in these regions.

The media official added that this is part of ongoing efforts to make the streets of Malé and Hulhumalé safe and orderly.

The police institution also highlighted that this is an effort to create an appropriate environment for the public to travel easily on land and to create parking spaces.

While police continue to remove illegally parked vehicles from the streets of Malé City, they recently collaborated with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to remove abandoned vehicles from Hulhumalé' streets as well.

While the government has arranged temporary land for four-wheeled vehicle parking, they have also recently allocated land for temporary storage of vehicles that are being used in violation of rules and regulations until their registrations and other matters are resolved.

The land allocated for four-wheeled vehicle parking in Hulhumalé is located in front of the Hulhumalé Cemetery Mosque. Of this 90,000 square feet area, 50,000 square feet has been designated for four-wheeled vehicles such as taxis. The remaining 40,000 square feet area has been designated for storing vehicles that are towed after being illegally parked on Hulhumalé streets.
