The foundation for the new Malé City Council office building has been laid.
The foundation of the new building being constructed in the capital Malé City was laid by Malé City Council Mayor Adam Azim and Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh during a ceremony held on Monday night.
The new Malé City Council office building is being constructed with adequate space to create a suitable environment for employees to work.
Speaking at the ceremony held to lay the foundation of the new Malé City Council office building, Mayor Adam Azim said that having a City Council office was a big dream and a great hope for the council.
Azim said that having its own office building for Malé City Council would bring additional wholeness to the work done by the council and would make things easier. He said that in the current situation, Malé residents are unsure where to go when they need to visit the city council.
Azim said that currently, Malé City Council employees are required to work in different locations, which causes significant difficulties in providing services to the general public in the most appropriate manner.
Noting that almost all islands in the Maldives have been reached now, Azim said that all those islands have their own council office buildings. Azim also said that Malé City Council is the only one without its own office building. However, he said that now, through the hard work of Malé City Council employees, the foundation of the new building has been laid, which is something all employees of Malé City deserve thanks for.
Azim said that Malé City Council has been working without its own office building for 15 years, but the new building whose foundation was laid will be completed within the next 10 months and will be ready for work. Mayor Azim also said that with the new Malé City Council building, the council's work will speed up, and the quality of services provided to the citizens will greatly improve.
This comes at a time significant damages were incurred by the City Council building in the major fire that impacted three government ministries on 12 December 2024.
As such, the section of Malé City Council that provides services related to housing and municipal affairs was operating in the block where the fire incident occurred. As the building was also affected by the fire, some services of the City Council have been suspended due to this incident.
