The names of nine lawmakers representing the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) have been announced for raising their voices during the inaugural sitting where the Presidential Address 2025 was being delivered.

The names of nine MDP members were announced after they rose their voices during the inaugural sitting held for the year 2025 on Thursday morning, while the president was delivering his second presidential address.

Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla announced the names of MP for South Galolhu constituency Meekail Ahmed Naseem, MP for Hanimaadhoo constituency Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, MP for South Hithadhoo constituency Ibrahim Nazil, MP for Keyodhoo constituency Mohamed Niushad, MP for Maradhoo constituency Ahmed Didi, MP for Thoddoo constituency Hussain Sameer, MP for Kendhoo constituency Mauroof Zakir and MP for Maradhoo constituency Ahmed Didi.

Even after their names were announced, as the members failed to leave the chamber voluntarily, they were forcibly removed through parliament security.

While the president was delivering his second presidential address since assuming office in November 2023, members raised their voices regarding the lies of the incumbent administration and the incumbent president in recent days, and the difficulties faced by the citizens due to the government's actions. The president halted his address as the opposition lawmakers protested.

The Speaker of Parliament suspended the delivery of the presidential address, noting that it would resume once the named members left the chamber. After the lawmakers were removed from the chamber, the presidential address resumed.
