President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned to the capital Malé City after concluding his tour of some islands in Alif Dhaal Atoll.
As part of the trip, the president visited some islands of Alif Dhaal Atoll and met with the residents, councils, and Women's Development Committees (WDC). He also discussed the development needs of the islands and the most desired matters of the people. During the trip, he also visited the health centers and schools of the islands and observed their conditions.
As part of the trip, the president announced several important decisions while addressing the public.
As such, he stated in a speech delivered to the people of Dhangethi that starting from the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan, the government would begin providing a Ramadan allowance to members of Women's Development Committees. In addition to this, in the same meeting, he emphasized that the dollar shortage issue would be resolved within a period of six to 12 months after the Foreign Currency Bill, which was ratified last Wednesday, is properly implemented.
Further, during the trip, the president stated that as soon as the technical work being done to amend the law to allocate a certain percentage of income from local tourism to be deposited to the councils is completed, he will submit it to the People’s Majlis, paving the way for tourism tax to be directly received by island councils, thus increasing the financial empowerment of island councils. Shedding light on the recent fire incident that destroyed three government ministries, Muizzu stressed that his administration will move forward by overcoming the obstacles that are placed and encountered.
The trip was the final one in the series of trips Muizzu started this year to meet and consult with all councils in the Maldives. During the trip, he announced his intention to visit every island in the Maldives in 2025.
A high-level government delegation accompanied the president during the tour.
