The team from Thimarafushi island of Thaa atoll has secured a spot in the second round of the ongoing 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament after winning their group stage match against the team from Thulhaadhoo island of Baa atoll.
Thimarafushi went head-to-head with Thulhaadhoo at the Galolhu National Stadium on Monday evening.
In the Group B match, Thimarafushi beat Thulhaadhoo 4 – 2.
Both teams lost their previous two matches before going into Monday’s game.
Therefore, the winning team of the match had the opportunity to advance to the second round in third place from Group B.
Thimarafushi was also the first to score in the match. Abdulla Ziyan scored and took the lead for the team. Thimarafushi's other three goals in the match were scored in the second half.
Thulhaadhoo also managed to score two goals in the second half. Ibrahim Sinah scored Thimarafushi's second goal in the second half, extending their lead.
Afterwards, Adam Nasih scored Thimarafushi's third goal, further extending the lead. Thulhaadhoo’s first goal was scored by Ahmed Rasheed. Their second goal came from an own goal by a Thimarafushi player. The own goal scored during added time was from a pass by Anoof Ahmed. Following this, Ahmed Aflaz scored Thimarafushi's fourth goal.
With this win, Thimarafushi has secured a place in the second round, finishing third in the group with three points from three matches. B. Eydhafushi topped the group to advance to the second round. The team from Malé City finished second and also qualified. With this, all matches in Group B have concluded.
