The team from Kudahuvadhoo island of Dhaal atoll has clinched a crucial win over the team from Faresmaathoda island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll in a thrilling showdown at the ongoing 90 Plus Gold Cup football tournament.
The two teams went head-to-head on Tuesday evening at the Galolhu National Stadium.
Both teams had lost their first matches in the tournament.
Therefore, winning this match was crucial for both teams.
Kudahuvadhoo beat Faresmaathoda 3–0 during Tuesday’s game.
Kudahuvadhoo created several opportunities to score even in the first half of the game. However, the team was able to score all three goals in the second half. Kudahuvadhoo took the lead very early in the second half with an own goal by a Faresmaathoda player.
The goal was scored after a ball sent by Kudahuvadhoo’s Mohamed Zihan Hussain deflected off a player and went into the goal. After that, Zihan scored the second goal for Kudahuvadhoo.
The winning team’s third goal came when a shot by Zihan struck the Faresmaathoda goalie’s hand before finding the back of the net. Kudahuvadhoo played the game without Mohamed Saif and Ahmed Rilwan, both of whom were sidelined due to red cards received in the opening game against Fuvahmulah City.
With this victory, Kudahuvadhoo has moved into third place in Group A, earning three points from two matches. Fuvahmulah City has won both of its matches and sits at the top of the group table, while Meedhoo follows close in second spot with three points from a single match.
