The feasibility study for the 100-bed hospital in Vilimalé, has been wrapped up.

The signing ceremony on the completion of the feasibility study of the 100-bed Hospital in Vilimalé with the assistance of the government of China, was held at the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure on Thursday.

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin signed the Memorandum of Feasibility Findings.

The signing of the memorandum establishes the basis to move to the next stage; the design and procurement stage of the project.

Chief Executive Officer of Dharumavantha Hospital Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem and senior officials at the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure as well as the Embassy of China in Maldives and Malé City Group of Hospitals joined the signing ceremony.

The government revealed that the construction of the hospital in Vilimalé is a project carried out under the grant aid from the government of China to the Maldivian government.

State media has reported that Construction Minister Muththalib said that the aim is to complete the construction of the 100-bed hospital in Vilimalé within two years and commence services.

Public Service Media (PSM) cited the minister having revealed that the tendering phase will take around six months, during which the design work will be completed and a company to carry out the work will be selected through bidding in China.

Further, he stated that construction work is expected to begin by mid-2025 and the hospital project will be completed within two years.

Muththalib said that he hopes the hospital will be operational in providing services as a good quality tertiary hospital by 2027.
